Archive for Hens Party

One of the areas that I have always found the most difficult is not the hens party, but the speech at the actual wedding. No matter how many times I did one it was always different and ever difficult. You are expected to be funny, eloquent, warm and personal – and do it in less than about 5 minutes! Arghhh..

maid of honor speechHowever quite recently I came across a package that not only provides a free book on more hens party ideas, but has now taken the pressure off once and for all for my speech. So I thought I would share it with the rest of my readers!

This package is featured on the right of the screen and is basically for anyone who has to stand up in front of a large number of people and give a speech, but in this instance most importantly aimed directly at the maid of honor/bridesmaids.

This book really does live up to the title: it’s the ultimate resource for the Maid of Honor, comprising detailed information on the speech making process itself (preparing, writing and delivering), and all the information that’s pertinent to the role of the Maid of Honor – ensuring that you can rise to any occasion on the big day.

So what is in it?

  • It has over twenty high-quality, professionally written speeches for you to mix and match as per your own requirements.
  • A detailed, user-friendly guide to writing a great speech for the special occasion – formatted specifically for the Maid of Honor!
  • A Maid of Honor etiquette guide, which includes everything necessary for you to be the best friend possible to the Bride on her wedding day
  • Proven, tried-and-tested speech-writing tips: for those of you who want to go all-out and write their own speech from scratch, you get a complete professionally written how-to guide.
  • Practical tips and advice on professional speech-delivery: how to make yourself look and sound great
  • Lots of the essential jokes and one-liners to ensure that your speech is memorable for all the right reasons

On top of this the guide also includes three extra bonus books – for free!

  1. Bridal Showers to Remember : This book supplies you with lots of original ideas for throwing a bridal shower like no otheryou have attended.
  2. The Bachelorette Party : Packed with tips and suggestions for throwing an amazing hens party – there’s some pretty awesome and innovative stuff in here!
  3. Total Unstoppable Confidence : Learn to overcome the nerves and actually enjoy your speech (and the whole day).  This is a downloadable audio-program put together by a professional hypnotherapist, so all you have to do is to sit back and listen as your speech-making phobias disappear.

Something else that’s guaranteed to come in handy: a private email consultation with the author of the book! If you have any queries, want to ask for advice, or could just do with some feedback, all you have to do is send an email to Dan to get all the information you need – straight from the horse’s mouth.

Overall, I have to say that this is one impressive information package. The author Dan has managed to cover all the bases: he’s included everything necessary to be a fantastic Maid of Honor, and has somehow managed to do it in an easy to read format: you can read the whole thing in one night, and be preparing your speech the next day.

This really is one of the few cases where the reality lives up to the title – it really is a complete how-to guide. Don’t miss it.

birthday invitationIt is just a piece of paper and for many is often a last minute thought, but the hen party invitation is actually quite an important element to consider for your next hens party.  The invitation sets the whole feel of the party and is particularly important as the typical hens party has a lot of elements that require money, transport and costumes.  If you have a poor invitation then you risk people being unable to find the venue, get lost between venues or be unprepared financially (a real disasterm, particularly if you are footing the bill).  The invitation needs to be clear on the attire requried otherwise you will find a lot of the guests will not dress up or will not put in a lot of effort – basically no one wants to get involved and then find they are the only one!!  So give your guests confidence with your invite and get them involved in the whole thing before they even attend!

If you haven’t already heard, the new big thing at the moment is to combine the Stag and Hen Parties for a different feel.  Now I’m not sure how I feel about this in general as I think that  it does lose something of its meaning.  But where I have seen this work the best is with hen stag weekends.  The reason for this is that by combining the two you get the best of both worlds.  You all have a great weekend away, you can have your seperate time to grill and laugh with the hen, but you alo have the advantage of bringing the couple together.  I particularly like this when you quiz the couple together and when you all have breakfast together the next morning after a big one away.

Whatever your style if the hen and groom cannot stand being apart then look at this one as a serious possibility.

The recipe

Hens Party Games - Recipe for Marriage

This hen party idea is a great addition to any hens party and is an opportunity for the other hens party guests to share their experiences of marriage and relationships with the bride to be.  The basic premise is this:

Each guest must write out their own ’recipe for marriage’ and outline each of the things they think are important to create an ideal marriage relationship (this can be pre-prepared or done on the night).  Once these are completed they are mixed together and the bride to be must decide on which is her favourite recipe and why.  The people with the best and  most humorous entries chosen win.

The bride then gets to keep all recipes as a momento of the occassion.

This activity is also a perfect match for a gourmet classy hen party

*Marriage recipe – each person writes down a recipe of marriage for the bride, after she chooses her favourite everyone gives her their recipe for her to keep.

Tiffany BlueThe other day a friend and I were talking about a recent hens party and the ettique of presents.  Weddings are expensive and there are often many occassions that offer themselves up to buy buy buy.. for instance there is the engagement party, the hens party, the kitchen tea and then of course the wedding.  Are you supposed to buy gifts for all of them?  What do you think?

Hens Party Invitations

One of the most significant and yet underated elements in organising any hens party is the invitations.  The reason that these are so important is that they not only provide information on the night, they also set the scene.  A well written invitation will tell your guests exactly what to expect in terms of theme, attire, timings and the general feel of the night.

So make sure you get some great invitations and show them they will WANT to attend and will get right into the theme from the start.

Whether you are into novelties or not, a hens party almost seems a little incomplete without at least a few knick knacks that help to create the right buzz.

First off you want to find some Hen Party Novelties that will identify your group, and most importantly something that will identify the actual bride to be.  The benefit of this is that you will then be able to use your group power to gain entrance to clubs, garner free drinks off handsome men and basically give you an excuse for your behaviour throughout the night!

The second type of Hen Night Novelties really depend on your theme.  Try to find novelties that will compliment your theme – i.e. devil horns and halos for an angels and demons party is quite an obvious choice.  But I would also recommend trying to find things that will be unexpected as well.  For instance, if you are having a classy hen party you may decide to add some dirty straws for your cocktails or the like.  The key to humour is to throw in something unexpected so be creative..

Hens Party Life Drawing

The true irony of a hens party is that while it is an all female event, men are pretty much a standard part of any proceedings.  The great thing about this activity is that you don’t even have to go to a bar to find them, they are ready and waiting for you in the way of art.

Just imagine getting together with your friends and learning how to draw an attractive naked man?  I have to admit it is a lot of fun and very funny – particularly when you see some of the drawings at the end.  The other bonus is there are a lot of places that now offer this service and will be happy to cater to you and your other guests – some even provide drinks!

So for something really different get drawing.

This is an extremely easy hens party game but does take a little bit of preparation.  Basically the premise of the game is that the bride will need to answer a list of questions about the groom, for each answer she gets wrong she gets a penalty, if she gets enough right then she wins a prize.  Penalties and prizes can be at your discretion.  i.e.  penalty make be a drink or a dare and the prize may be a gift from the husband to be.

You will need to speak to the groom prior to the evening and ask him the questions first so you have all of the correct answers to hand.  Try to mix up the questions so that they are not all easy or too hard.  Maybe start out asking what his favourite colour is, and move on to things like his ‘childhood dream’.

This game is perfect for alomst any hens party theme and location and is an excellent match for the classy hen party.

Here are some more Hens Party Games.

Hens Party Themes - Classy Hen Party Ideas

As you probably already know, the average hens party can be downright dirty and is definitely not for everyone.  For this reason I have dedicated this section to providing some classy hen party ideas that will allow you to create a feel of style and elegance to your next gathering:

The Day Spa

There is nothing more luxurious than being pampered at a spa for the day.  Take a range of treatments and just relax while chatting to the girls and drinking some champagne in your robes.  bliss!

High Tea

Treat yourselves to an afternoon affair in an upmarket hotel with cakes, sandwiches and tea.  This is a particularly great venue to just chat and have a laugh with your other guests.

Gourmet Meal

Treat yourselves to a gourmet meal at one of the finest restaurants in your area, or better yet have a personal chef come to your home and cook you all a sensational meal of your choosing.  Even better is that they will often do the setting up and cleaning for you too!  This is one of my favourite classy hen party ideas as it is simple but entertaining and most of all delicious.  You can even add some wine tasting to the evening to match up with your individual courses.

Wine Tasting

One of my favourite activities is visiting wineries and tasting beautiful wines and delectable cheeses. Hire a minivan and make a day trip of it, or for a more local affair you can hire a professional for the day who will come to your home and teach you all the pleasures of wine.

Fashion Day

Attend a fashion show and then follow it up by hiring a personal fashion consultant who will take you through the colours and styles that will match your personal look and taste.  You can then all head out on a mass shopping spree if you like…

I will be adding some more classy hen party ideas shortly, but let me know if you need any more information.  Also, check out my hens party games section for some icebreakers for the event.

Have fun!
